Flip says it is “bringing back the home movie night,” with FlipShare TV, a Wi-Fi system that brings photos and videos from the home PC “into the family room and onto the television screen.”
The $150 system includes a base console that connects to the television via composite or HDMI cables, and a USB key that plugs into a PC. The USB key and console are preconfigured with an 802.11n point-to-point proprietary interface “so the Flip videos stored on the computer can be instantly viewed on the television with no need for a wireless home network.” The base measures 4.6-by-4.6-by-1.3 inches.
The included wireless remote lets the user click through a simple interface on the TV to watch videos or photos in HD.
Also, users can set up “Flip Channels” in the software so selected friends and family members can view new content instantly. “Grandparents can simply turn on the television and watch the latest Flip video of their grandchildren, or siblings living far away can share video to each other’s televisions with ease,” the company says.
The San Francisco, Calif., company updated its FlipShare software that comes preloaded on its pocket video camcorders. Its new “Magic Movie” feature automatically creates custom videos from selected video clips. FlipShare 5.0 also provides a mobile app for iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android devices.
FlipShare 5.0 is compatible with all Flip Video camcorders and can be downloaded free at www.TheFlip.com/support.
Flip Video Products now operates as part of the Cisco Consumer Products group.
